Peer analysis

Starting point to perform a peer analysis with FactSet is typing the name of the company you want to analyze in the blue search bar on top of the page and selecting the relevant option from the list of suggested results:

A new screen will open displaying with key information on the company, such as business description, activity segments and the main financial data.

Please note that company information is organized into different reports, that you can navigate using the tabs on the left-hand side bar. Click “Comps”:

The default source used by FactSet to identify peers is FactSet Peer Groups. On the upper part of the Comp page, you find filters to refine the predefined list(s) of peers by region and by market cap range:

Depending on your selection(s), relevant tables will be displayed on the lower part of the page, comparing different metrics of all the companies included in the group of peers. Available tables are Selected Financials, Valuation, Capitalization, Margins, or Performance:

  • Selected Financials > reports metrics such as Revenue, EBITDA, EBIT, FCF.
  • Valuation > reports key market metrics (Price target, Enterprise value, Market value, Net Debt), and valuation ratios (P/Sales, EV/Sales, EV/EBITDA, P/E)
  • Capitalization > reports share price, number of share outstanding, market cap, EV and some balance sheets figures (Cash and short term investment, Total Debt, Preferred Stocks, Accumulated Min interest)
  • Margins > reports metrics on margin, such as Gross margin , EBITDA margin, EBIT margin and Net margin.

You can choose to view one or multiple tables by selecting or deselecting the check boxes in the View section:

If you want to customize the list by adding other companies, start entering the company name or identifier in the Add Company box and select the relevant option from the suggestions list:

If you are not sure of the name of the company to add, you can click the Identifier Lookup  button and perform an advanced search using different filters:

If you want to remove a company from the list of peers, hover your cursor on the company name and click the “Remove” button:

You can create one or more custom tables (up to 5) to include only the information you want to see and in the order you prefer. Click “Custom” , then click “+”:

In the Create Table dialog box, enter a name for your table, then pick from the available data items:  

double-click the item or select it, and then click the Add Item button. Finally click Create.

The newly created table will appear on the lower part of the screen. If you want to modify it, click the pencil icon:
