RefWorks add-ons allow you to insert citations from your RefWorks library as you write your paper using Microsoft Word or Google Docs. The add-on for Word 2016 and Above is RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM). The add-in can be downloaded and installed from the Microsoft Store in Word. Bocconi users find RefWorks Citation Manager installed in their Microsoft Word. When you open a document, click on the icon RCM on Word ribbon; click it and then click the RefWorks Citation Manager tab on the left side of the screen: a RefWorks window will open on the right side of the document, prompting you to login to your RefWorks account:
Once logged in, it will automatically synchronize with your whole RefWorks library. if you have more than one project in your RefWorks account, click All references and choose the project related to the paper you are working at.
If you wish to use a citation style other than the pre-selected one, open the View Menu, click Citation style and select your favourite style:
When you are ready to insert a citation in your paper, place your cursor where you want it to appear and find the corresponding reference on the sidebar using the search bar, hover over the reference and click Cite this. Alternatively, you can mark the box of the reference, and, if you are happy with the preview, click Insert citation: the reference will be automatically inserted in your paper as an in-text citation. For multiple citations, mark the references you want to cite, then click Insert citation: the citations will appear on the text separated by semicolons.
If you have selected a citation style with footnotes, you first need to insert a Word footnote at the bottom of the document. Place your cursor in the footnote, move to the RCM pane on the right-hand side, select your reference, and click Cite this (or mark the box of the reference, check the preview, then click Insert citation):
To add the list or cited references at the end of the paper, click on the View Menu and set Bibliography: On: a formatted list of references will update each time you modify your citations (i.e. remove or add one):
